Let’s Subsidize Some Poison

How much poison do you eat, on purpose, every day, and pay extra for it with your taxes without even realizing it? The truth is, a lot more than you probably think. You see, your taxes subsidize U.S. farmers. Here in the U.S., farmers grow corn… LOTS of corn… mountains of it every year. Corn is used to make High Fructose Corn Syrup, and that stuff is in everything from worchestire sauce to Gatorade. This video takes an hour and a half to watch, and it does have some technical mumbo jumbo in it. The video is a year or two old, but the chemistry and the science are still the same. Regardless, even non-medical people should be able to watch this and understand the underlying message: stop poisoning yourself and your family.

Mailbag Joke – Five Paces

Yet another joke in my email inbox from Dave W:

Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict. She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy to maintain the old custom.

Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, ‘Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?’

The woman looked Ms Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, “Land mines.”

Moral of the story is (no matter what language you speak or where you go):
